Role Purpose

The Marketing and Communications Manager plays a pivotal role within the Marketing & Communications team at Brixton House. This role is instrumental in supporting the Head of Marketing & Communications in executing the department's strategy and creating marketing campaigns to achieve our ticket sales and audience engagement objectives. The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day coordination of marketing campaigns for Brixton House productions.

The Marketing & Communications team is essential to realising Brixton House's ambitious vision, with strategic priorities that encompass:

Establishing and nurturing the Brixton House brand presence within Brixton, the wider London community, and internationally. Implementing a data-driven marketing approach to promote Brixton House and its commercial operations including hires and café/bar. Broadening and diversifying our audience base, with a particular focus on engaging individuals less connected to arts and culture. Amplifying our reach beyond existing ticket buyers, primarily by creating and distributing digital content to foster cultural conversations. Crafting a segmentation strategy for audiences based on insights derived from our CRM system (Spektrix). Generating additional revenue through the growth of Brixton House Membership and the promotion of ancillary sales.

The Communication and Audience Development Department will be made up of five full time members of staff: the Head of Communications & Audience Development, Marketing and Communications Manager, the Marketing and Communications Coordinators: Digital & Content, PR and Communications; and Box Office and Ticketing Co-ordinator.

Key Responsibilities

Campaigns

Collaborate with the Head of Marketing & Communications to conceive creative, data-driven marketing campaigns for all Brixton House productions and events. Oversee the day-to-day planning and execution of marketing campaigns, ensuring seamless integration and timely delivery. Monitor and assess all campaigns, meticulously tracking ROI and key metrics. Share findings to inform future marketing strategies and planning. Collaborate with the Marketing Coordinators to create seasonal and production-specific materials. Cultivate and enhance Brixton House’s brand image by coordinating with creative teams, design agencies, PR freelancers/agencies and suppliers. Source images while ensuring their legal use and work on creative image commissions as necessary. Co-share responsibility for maintaining the accuracy of all marketing communications, consistently upholding the theatre's brand identity across the organization. Manage relationships with external suppliers, including media buyers, marketing agencies, and designers. Formulate and implement marketing strategies to boost revenue from ancillary sales, such as merchandise and the Brixton House Café/Bar. Develop and execute marketing communications and branding for event partners, sponsor relationships, providing campaign evaluation.

Audience Development

Drive forward audience development strategies, particularly focusing on main house productions, in alignment with Brixton House's audience building objectives. Research and engage with new audience development groups and communities. Utilise audience data to steer strategic decisions. Work closely with the Head of Marketing and Communications to create opportunities for the Brixton House Membership. Partner with the Creative Engagement team to promote participatory projects and initiatives while overseeing the achievement of marketing objectives. Collaborate with the Producing, Commercial and Operational teams and Access steering group to identify and implement access marketing initiatives and expand this audience.

Sales/Finance:

Secure predefined sales and audience targets for Brixton House productions, manage campaign budgets, and evaluate the effectiveness of sales strategies. Continuously review budgets throughout the year and provide recommendations to the Head of Marketing for any necessary adjustments. In conjunction with the Box Office Coordinator and the broader marketing team, ensure accurate and timely setup for priority and public booking periods, along with related communications. Compile sales reports and distribute information across the organization.

Media Relations (Including social media and Influencers):

Develop and execute media strategies to promote Brixton House productions, special events, and initiatives. Build and maintain strong relationships with media professionals, journalists, editors, and influencers to ensure extensive coverage of Brixton House, including social media and influencer partnerships. Serve as a point of contact for media inquiries, interview requests, and press releases. Create and distribute engaging press releases, media advisories, and other materials to garner media attention for Brixton House events and news. Coordinate media interviews, photo shoots, and press events for key productions, collaborating closely with artists and stakeholders. Monitor media coverage and track mentions of Brixton House, providing regular media reports for internal stakeholders. Proactively identify and pursue media partnerships, collaborations, and feature stories aligned with Brixton House's mission, including social media collaborations and influencer engagement. Collaborate with the Head of Marketing & Communications to develop media strategies that enhance Brixton House's visibility and reputation. Ensure the accurate and consistent portrayal of Brixton House in media coverage and address any inaccuracies promptly. Manage the media budget, including negotiations with media partners, influencers, and suppliers.

PR:

Develop and implement comprehensive PR strategies to amplify Brixton House's presence and achievements in conjunction with Head of Marketing and Communications. Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including artists, community leaders, and cultural organisations, to enhance Brixton House's community engagement. Craft compelling narratives that showcase Brixton House's unique programming and its impact on the cultural landscape. Work closely with the PR and Communications Coordinator to create high-quality PR materials, including press kits, bios, and backgrounders. Identify and leverage opportunities for thought leadership and placements that position Brixton House as an industry leader. Work with the Head of Marketing and Communication on crisis communication strategies and brief Brixton House’s spokesperson when needed. Establish and manage partnerships with local businesses and organisations to expand Brixton House's reach and relevance in the community. Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all PR materials and communications. Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in media relations and PR, integrating innovative approaches into Brixton House's strategies.

Other Duties

Assist the Head of Marketing in liaising with external producers and marketing agencies involved in Brixton House productions beyond the venue. Review and update photography displayed at Brixton House. Act as a substitute for the Head of Marketing & Communications when required. Foster positive relationships with other venues, including strategic collaborations and cross-promotional initiatives.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential:

Experience working on a range of marketing campaigns and strategies to develop audiences and achieve sales targets. Attention to details and excellent organisational skills. Experience of executing 360 marketing and communication campaigns. Demonstrable experience in email marketing, mobile, SEO activity and PPC. Demonstrable experience in communications with media relations. Experience of ticketing, sales, and box office related activities through ticketing software, ideally Spektrix. Strong IT skills and proven experience in data analysis for campaigns – both organic and paid. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail. Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise. Ability to bring creativity and imagination into every campaign. Desirable:

Experience of creating relevant and effective visual content (images and videos) for social media platforms. Proficiency with Photoshop or other photo editing tools. Experience of introducing new forms media into a company or organisation. Experience of managing relationships with freelancers (i.e., designers, artists). Knowledge of Brixton and/or the south London arts community would be an advantage. Knowledge of the theatre/arts sector.
