Background
City is seeking an experienced Linux Support Engineer to join our teams in Information Technology to provide daily production support for all aspects of our Linux services.
Responsibilities
The role holder will provide daily support for all aspects of the Linux services, and more specialized support for a subset of Linux based systems, ensuring that systems are available to meet the demands of teaching, research and other functions, following up on system monitoring reports, ensuring that systems and services meet the security requirements of the University, and that data is backed up regularly.
The role holder will also assist with the planning, monitoring and undertaking of regular systems maintenance procedures such as monthly patching and code drops, and participate in the departments on-call service for out of hours support if required.
Person Specification
The successful applicant will have a proven background in deploying and working with both physical and virtualized Linux systems using CentOS, Rocky Linux and / or Ubuntu Linux within an Enterprise environment, with a good working knowledge of web server technologies and experience working with and maintaining a VLE or large-scale LAMP application.
In addition the successful applicant will have a good working knowledge of shell scripting and ideally experience working with automation and configuration management tools such as ansible, monitoring tools such as Nagios and experience of managing and maintaining database systems such as MySQL.
