Laboratory TechnicianPAYE & Umbrella Hourly Rate OptionsMonday to Friday (Half day Friday)37 hours a week6 Month Contract (chance for extension) Shorterm Group are currently assisting one of our high profile Aerospace clients based in Gloucester. They are looking for a Laboratory Technician to join the team for a project running until 2027. Job Description:This is an exceptional chance to join the Materials & Processes Laboratory team based in Gloucester. The team provides Materials & Process expertise on a wide variety of subjects and provides support to a broad range of internal customers. As well as supporting activities at a site level, the Gloucester Laboratory team work closely with other Materials & Processes Laboratories within all divisions worldwide.This role will require involvement in a broad range of key laboratory activities including general wet chemistry, testing of solvents and paints, the use of salt spray cabinets. Experience with metallographic sample preparation would be an advantage.Responsibilities include: Involvement in laboratory tasks related to chemistry. Supporting the corrosion testing of paint and surface protection treatments. General laboratory metallographic sample preparation and use of microscopy. Maintaining Laboratory 5S standards.Candidate skills and requirements 2 years of hands on experience in wet chemistry and/or processing of coatings Must be familiar with titration, filtration, diluting acid solution, salt spray testing. Experience in electrochemistry would be an advantage. Metallographic sample preparation, particularly with respect to steels, titanium and aluminium alloys. Microscopy and materials testing would be an advantage. Ability to understand and interpret specifications relating to materials and processes. Must be able to effectively communicate and convey technical information to internal customers. Must be flexible and be prepared to undertake a range of duties to assist engineering, R&T and the assembly line.Educational skills and experience A degree in chemistry / materials science is preferred, though candidates from other science and engineering disciplines may be considered depending on their prior experience.
