GBPCompetitive Salary Great Staff Benefits Excellent CompanyJob Title: Junior Automation EngineerLocation: CrawleyEmployment Type: Permanent / ContractShift: Mon – Fri 08:45 – 17:15Reporting to: Senior Engineer, AutomationEssential Qualifications / Skills: Mechanical/Automation Engineering degree (must be BEng or MEng) 2:1 or aboveSome experience of a Design Software (e.g. 2D: AutoCAD, 3D: Inventor, Solid Works, Solid Edge, Catia or equivalent) (our operational CAD system is Inventor Suite – with 3D: Autodesk Inventor & AutoCAD Mechanical desk top (for older 2D drawings Ability to demonstrate some experience of design engineering work (at university / placement or 1–2 years in industry)Some understanding of engineering terminology, manufacturing techniques, material choices and design considerationsAbility to work displaying organisation, enthusiasm & own initiativeMulti–task with simultaneous projects meeting tight cost and time restraints (often a week or less)Computer literate (Word, Excel – intermediate level)Good communication skills (both written and verbal)Must speak clear fluent English (including technical vocabulary)Free to work in the UK without visa restrictionsCurrent manual driving licence & must be prepared to travel to all 3 sites (South Nutfield & Crawley x2)Beneficial Qualifications / Skills:Knowledge of / qualifications in / experience (even at university) with automation (robotics) and/or Electrical/Electronic disciplineAny level of experience of doing coding in any languageKeen interest / experience in 3D printing (we have Ultimaker S5 (Ultimaker Cura) 3D printers)Understanding of automation, what it entails in a production/manufacturing scenario and the reasons for using itJob Description As a Junior Automation Engineer, you will have an important role in supporting the Automation team, ensuring the Company's manufacturing processes run as efficiently as possible while maintaining a high degree of accuracy You will begin working on own initiative and offer creative thinking to reduce cost, time, effort, and repetition in production Become familiar with design, assembly, installation, control and troubleshooting of new and existing production equipment Support engineering design team with assembly, testing and problem solving the development of new products Liaise with Engineering during the product development phase to ensure the principle of "design for manufacture" is adapted Assist in managing "new product introduction processes", including developing the supply chain, QA and packaging methods to enable the production process to operate as effectively as possible Assist in training and developing the skills and knowledge of production staff operating the equipment Begin to understand the function of new products being introduced and work with Engineering to ensure that parts and assemblies fit correctly and report accordingly Analyse current production processes, identifying limitations; improve lean manufacturing techniques to resolve them Support in the development of the production methods of new and existing products in a logical and efficient manner, this includes: workstations, material handling, automation and procedures Support the Automation Engineers to understand the process and its need to select the appropriate instruments to monitor and control all the necessary variables Prepare and update Production process instructions, safe working procedures with quality processes across all our manufacturing sites After the appropriate training, programme robot software, beginning to build an understanding of their capabilities. Proactively thinking about how we can use them for existing tasks Participate in functioning processes and testing of products Regularly check equipment to see it is in good working order, reporting any failures to the Senior Engineer, Automation Record information in a logical manner.
