Holiferm invites applications from inspired, innovative, and team-oriented individuals for a full-time role as an analytics-focussed research assistant within our R&D team in Trafford Park, Manchester.
Holiferm is facilitating the transition of the $42 billion surfactant market away from harmful, fossil fuel-based chemicals to biobased alternatives. We produce sophorolipid biosurfactants: renewable, biodegradable, and mild alternatives to the petrochemical derived surfactants used in household cleaning, laundry, and personal care products.
We are seeking highly motivated analytical scientists who want to challenge themselves and others and fit well with our company philosophy, and first and foremost, get things done. This role is suitable for anyone with a chemistry background or equivalent interested in a lab-based role with an interest in industrial research, ranging from entry-level scientists who have recently finished a MSc or equivalent in analytical methods, to someone experienced in a technical lab role looking for the next challenge.
Role Responsibilities
As an Analytical Scientist, you will:
Prepare and process analytical samples. Calibrate and maintain equipment. Perform downstream processing and quality control checks. Work closely and collaborate with R&D project teams and the lab support team. Assist in development of new analytical methods Role Requirements:
Wet Chemistry techniques, including organic solvents, stock solution, buffers, and sample preparation. Chromatographic techniques (e.g., HPLC or GC) with maintenance and troubleshooting skills. Strong knowledge of lab health and safety Proactive, accurate and efficient work with reliable data and electronic records. Collaborative attitude, time management and adaptability to a fast-paced environment. Method development experience (e.g HPLC,GC) Strong knowledge of lab health and safety Experience in sample preparation techniques (e.g. L/L extraction, SPE) Fundamental knowledge of organic chemistry
Strong logical and critical thinking for troubleshooting. Right to work in the UK. Preferred (Learn on the job):
HPLC operator in academia or industry. Knowledge of biotechnology and fermentation-based manufacturing Familiarity with Waters Empower processing software. Knowledge of surfactant behaviour, phase behaviour, and surface tension measurement techniques.
