For sale is my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Orvis (top spec final year). 154,000 miles, 1 key, some history, MOT to Jan.
This was my daily driver up until recently, so it could be driven away and be used both on- and off-road, but I’m selling as a project as the MOT expires at the end of Jan and there are various bits that need doing. I was in the process of refreshing everything mechanically but unfortunately I just don’t have the time. It is a very well used thing that nonetheless still has a lot of life left in it.
Bad
Diff can get noisy at high speed - doesn’t seem to affect anything
Transfer case tired - can clunk after a long drive and hop in tight turns when hot
This is a very well used Jeep so it has plenty of cosmetic issues like the headliner sagging
Some play in the steering as you'd expect
Has the rare LSD upgrade, but is currently operating as standard open diff
CV joint needs attention as it's clicking in turns
Heating and aircon get neither particularly warm nor cold
Rear-view mirror needs sticking back on
Good
Looks great at a few paces despite 25 years of wear
Top-spec Orvis trim has full leather, premium sound system with sound bar etc.
Interior in solid condition for the age
Engine and gearbox seem healthy with plenty of power
Very recently had new struts, drop links, steering arms, calipers and more
Sits on four slightly upsized and spaced Goodyear Wranglers with 5/6mm tread
The underside has been rust treated at some point which seems to be holding up well
It’s worth noting the car does have an LPG setup under the bonnet. This was connected to an underslung tank which I removed because I didn’t need the extra economy and it reduced ground clearance. The system was fully working and checked over by a specialist before I did this, so I imagine all it would need is a new tank either in the boot or under the rear.
Ultimately this is a 25 year old, well-used Jeep with plenty of niggles and cosmetic issues, but it's far too good to part out. It's currently SORN so can't be driven on public roads. Please text or contact through Gumtree as it's much easier to fit around work. Thanks.
