Description

We are looking for an Inhouse Energy Manager to join a British multinational transport group who are the UK's first public transport operator to commit to ambitious science-based targets to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

To help on the journey they are looking to appoint a Decarbonisation Delivery Programme Manager - a diverse and impactful role reporting to the Decarbonisation Programme Director.

About the Role

The successful candidate will split their focus (50/50) between two areas:

Firstly, develop and spearhead the utilities and carbon reduction roadmap across its 50+ depots (GBP9M+/year energy spend excluding EV charging) in UK and Ireland, with a focus on estates. This includes oversight of capital and maintenance spend and behavioural campaigns.

Secondly, project manage a variety of decarbonisation workstreams which may span from depot fleet electrification projects, smart charging rollouts and estates transformation as the company transitions to a zero emissions fleet.

The Day to Day

Develop and implement an energy/utilities management programme at pace for the company across 50+ depots, to deliver Scope 1 carbon savings and to achieve stretching energy cost savings targets of 10%+ per annum.

Identify and implement energy efficiency initiatives to reduce energy consumption and costs, with the aid of internal subject matter experts (eg. Head of Construction / Head of Environment) as well as third-party suppliers and consultants.

Work collaboratively with depot teams to drive energy efficiency projects, adopt behavioural/maintenance best practices, and invest capital to generate energy savings.

Steer activities spanning from providing and facilitating training on energy efficiency measures, conducting energy audits, and setting energy reduction goals for each depot.

Monitor and report on energy consumption and performance. This includes tracking energy use over time and identifying opportunities to quickly improve.

Deploy programme and project management expertise to a variety of additional decarbonisation workstreams such as fleet electrification and estates transformation. This includes:

Leading projects to success on time, on budget, and with high quality, by taking initiative and focusing on results.

Driving robust governance through regular project and program meetings, ensuring clear minutes and action logs are shared with all stakeholders and tracked closely.

Solving problems quickly by escalating them as needed and managing risk and commercial impacts effectively.

Writing compelling business and funding cases in collaboration with colleagues from Finance, Engineering, Property, and Environment to secure funding for fast-track decarbonisation results.

Geographical Coverage The role is UK wide. Hybrid working model is in place, with the requirement to be in proximity to either Leeds, London or Glasgow locations, along with frequent travel country-wide. They'd Love You to Have

The role is ideally suited for an energy management professional looking to branch out into other areas of decarbonisation while still retaining their primary competency. Proven experience (3+ years preferred) in corporate energy management leadership across multi-site estates (preferably industrial sites vs. office/commercial), with demonstrable capability to meet ambitious carbon and cost saving targets Additionally, experience in at least two of the following areas:

EV charging infrastructure project delivery.

E-mobility software implementations (e.g. telematics, smart charging)

Flexibility/demand-side response (e.g. capacity market contracts, energy markets trading)

Energy procurement

Proven track record of successfully driving company-wide transformation in operations and ways of working.

Proven experience in project management and delivery, while also comfortable managing a portfolio of projects at programme level

STEM or quantitative degree preferred - or equivalent experience

Commercial acumen to manage budgets and financial reporting, together with management of third-party consultants and service providers.
