Why Rolls-Royce?
Work with us and we'll welcome you into an inclusive culture, one that invests in your continuous learning and development, and gives you access to a wide breadth and depth of experience.
Throughout our proud history, we've discovered pioneers come in many forms, not least through the individual traits displayed by our people. Join us and you can bring yourself to work every day - in an environment of collaboration, continuous learning and respect.
We are looking to recruit a Health Physics Technician to join the Operational Health Physics team at Rolls-Royce Submarines. You will work as part of a shift team, supporting the Submarines' Core Production business unit by maintaining a radiological protection service, providing specialised monitoring support, and offering operational health physics advice.
At Rolls-Royce, we look beyond tomorrow. We continually pioneer integrated power and propulsion solutions to deliver cleaner, safer and more competitive power.
Our nuclear business is a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy's nuclear submarine fleet and the sole provider and technical authority, managing all aspects of plant design, safety, manufacture, performance and through-life support.
Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home or another remote location. It's a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we're all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.
What you will be doing:
You will perform radiation and contamination surveys
Undertake workplace monitoring for radiological hazards (radiation, and surface and airborne contamination), and keep accurate records of monitoring undertaken. Carry out radiological monitoring equipment calibrations and daily checks prior to use. Support environmental permitting compliance activities such as liquid and gaseous effluent analysis, and waste monitoring.
Who we're looking for:
At Rolls-Royce we embrace agility, are bold, pursue collaboration and seek simplicity in everything we do. These principles form our values and behaviours and are an essential component of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.
Effective communication skills. You need to be able to ask questions, clarify anything you do not understand, and explain your work and results to employees at a variety of levels. Computer skills. You are expected to use computers for office work such as emailing, documenting activities, trending results, and submitting safety observations. Motivated and flexible. You need to be able to use your own initiative and judgement (within the scope of the role), identify and implement improvements in working procedures, and respond to the ever-changing operational environment. Practical experience in radiation and contamination monitoring is essential. A formal qualification such as the NVQ Level 2 in Radiation Protection OR City and Guilds Radiation Safety Practice Stage 1 is desirable.
We offer excellent development prospects, along with a competitive salary and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.
We are an equal opportunities employer. We're committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives. And the more perspectives we have, the more successful we'll be. By building a culture of respect and appreciation, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.
