This is an exciting opportunity for a talented, experienced, and ambitious fundraiser to lead a high-performing Philanthropy Team in the British Museum's Advancement Department.

Philanthropy plays a vital role in advancing the Museum's mission. The successful candidate will be responsible for raising funds that support strategic and operational priorities, expanding philanthropic engagement from individuals, trusts, and foundations, and delivering a sector-leading major gift and legacies programme.

This is an excellent time to join the Museum as we embark on a masterplan to renovate and restore our historic estate and plan a major fundraising campaign to support the transformation.

The Head of Philanthropy is a senior role in the Advancement Department and is responsible for major gifts, trusts & foundations, and legacies. Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Head of Philanthropy will develop and implement strategies to meet income targets, nurture relationships with donors, and engage new supporters. The post holder will cultivate, solicit, and steward their own prospect portfolio to secure funding for the Museum's priorities, while supporting the Director of Advancement with the management of key donor relationships. The successful candidate will motivate and inspire their team and work effectively with stakeholders from across the organisation.

About you:

Track record of managing high-performing fundraising teams and meeting income targets Experience of securing 6-7 figure gifts from individuals and organisations Ability to increase donor numbers and gift income Experience of legacy fundraising Commitment to the highest standards of stakeholder relationship management Experience of operating at a senior level in complex organisations in the cultural, education, or third sectors Sophisticated communications skills High degree of commitment to fundraising, with sound understanding of best practice and trends in philanthropy Solutions-focused mind-set and entrepreneurial approach High levels of resilience, adaptability, and professionalism Educated to degree level or equivalent About the British Museum:
