We have two Gas Network Shift Operations Engineer positions available in our system control team. The NGN Energy Management Centre (EMC) is a 24/7 operation which delivers demand balancing alongside safe and efficient transportation of gases from the various entry points onto the NGN networks to the consumer. Being a 24/7 operation please be advised that you will be working a shift pattern.
As a Gas Network Shift Operations Engineer you will develop detailed knowledge of all NGN gas systems, our characteristic behaviours and how to develop the regular forecasts and balancing strategies necessary to maintain supply and to publish this information to National Gas.
Your key accountabilities and responsibilities will include
• Responsibility for the development of strategies that ensure system balance and gain sign off from the shift lead prior to publication
• Managing the remote plant and equipment associated with the daily balancing of the network, including offtakes, storage sites, valves and regulators to ensure that network capacity requirements are met
• Responsibility for the handling of alarms generated by the network, analysing such in conjunction with the shift lead to raise faults and ensure an appropriate response is secured based on the defined alarm response and assessment of prevailing conditions
• Managing the daily maintenance activity on the network both for planned and unplanned maintenance as well as non-routine activities to ensure that network capacity and resilience requirements are met
• Supporting the department during Network Gas Supply Emergencies or equivalent exercises to meet NGN statutory obligations
• Providing cover arrangements for the 24/7 function and additionally provide cover for the other functions working weekdays within the EMC
What we are looking for in our Gas Network Shift Operations Engineers
• Degree Level or equivalent within a technical discipline
• Able to demonstrate technical knowledge and experience of successful project planning and co-ordination on a range of work types
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
• Good communication skills verbal, written and numerical
• Previous positive work / engagement with external stakeholders

• Starting salary from GBP38,510
• Up to 10% bonus (dependent upon achievement of set targets)

• 25 days annual leave (plus recognised bank holidays and 2 half days over the Christmas period)
• SSP for first 7 calendar days then occupational sick pay

We are Northern Gas Networks. We deliver gas to 2.7 million homes and businesses in the North East, Northern Cumbria and much of Yorkshire. That s around 6.7million individual customers. We don t generate or sell the gas, but we transport it to homes and businesses in our region through a vast network of underground pipes. In fact, we own and maintain more than 37,000km of gas pipes - enough to stretch from Leeds to Sydney and back again. We cover large cities like Newcastle, Sunderland, Leeds, York, Hull, and Bradford, and our work extends to rural areas like North Yorkshire and Cumbria.
