The position of Finance & Resources Director is a wide-ranging role which offers a unique opportunity at the heart of one of the UK’s most prominent and successful performing arts organisations as a key member of LSO’s senior management team.

The role has primary responsibility for all aspects of the management of the LSO’s finances, with total income in excess of £21m generated from a combination of public funding, earned income and philanthropy with activity taking place in London, across the UK and internationally.

The financial responsibilities range from strategic planning to modelling and analysis (e.g. on new initiatives). Supported by the finance team which manages all day-to-day processing and reporting, the Finance & Resources Director is expected to have an in-depth understanding of the LSO’s finances and to advise on a range of financial matters.

Other areas of responsibility include HR (managed by the Human Resources Manager), IT (managed by the Head of Technology), premises, legal, insurance, health and safety, risk management and wider strategy.

The successful candidate will be able to quickly get to grips with the diverse scope of the LSO’s work and the full breadth of the role. They will build confidence in their ability to provide appropriate advice and support to the Board, Managing Director and colleagues across the organisation. In many cases, oversight and being a sounding board is all that is needed, whilst at other times more detailed involvement is required.

The role will suit an experienced individual from a charitable or commercial environment who is seeking new challenges, or a talented individual seeking to make a step up from a similar role in a smaller organisation. An interest in orchestral music or the performing arts is an advantage, but not essential.

We are looking for someone with the following skills and qualities:

A fully qualified accountant with experience of taking a strategic view and also able to get involved in detail as required.

Extensive proven experience in a similar role in a large or medium-sized organisation with diverse activities and a range of income streams

Able to analyse financial and non-financial information to guide decisions and develop new plans

Experience of managing or overseeing property, legal, insurance, health and safety, HR, IT, etc.

Able to work well in a team and with people of different backgrounds and seniority, including those from non‑financial disciplines.

Articulate, fluent and persuasive speaker and writer with excellent IT skills Able to work constructively and creatively in a dynamic environment across a diverse remit

Highly organised, self-motivated and able to set and achieve organisational and personal goals

Thrives in a fast paced, demanding environment
