Position: Finance and Operations Manager
Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week), maternity leave - 12 - 13-month contract.
Salary: 45-55K
Location: London, 1-2 days in the office

Merrifield Consultants are proud to partner with The Scar Free Foundation - an organisation dedicated to achieving scar-free healing within a generation and transforming the lives of those affected by scarring. This Foundation is currently looking for a Finance and Operations Manager to join the team on a fixed-term contract for a maximum of 12 months, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial accounting, administrative functions, governance, and various operational aspects of the Charity. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you will manage key relationships with the Honorary Treasurer and Finance and Operations Committee, internal staff, external partners, trustees, and suppliers. Overseeing the effective management of diverse operational needs and financial processes within the Foundation.
Main responsibilities
Finance
Manage all financial accounting aspects, including reconciliation, payroll, invoices, Barclay card statements, expenditure tracking, and financial reporting.Assist with the management of pension and payroll submissions.Maintain accurate financial records in SAGE.Prepare monthly Management Reports including financial summaries, income charts, and research commitment schedules for circulation to the Finance and trustees.Support in the preparation of the draft budget, assist the accountant during the annual audit, and participate in financial year-end activities.Prepare required papers for the Finance and Operations Committee.Present to the Finance and Operations Committee and Board of Trustee on the quarterly Finance Reports and Annual Audit.Collaborate with the Finance and Operations Manager to gather the necessary financial data and documentationGenerate accurate and comprehensive annual accountsCreate any required supporting documents, papers, and narratives for the annual accountsOversee and manage all aspects of the annual audit, including fieldwork and data verificationAddress auditor queries promptly and provide necessary clarificationsEnsure compliance with relevant charity accounting standards and regulatory requirementsGovernance
Coordinate the confirmation and submission of annual accounts with the Foundations Auditors, plus submitting to the Finance and Operations Committee for final proofreading and pre-audit meeting.Assist in writing the next financial year's Management PlanEnsure compliance by submitting the confirmation statement to Companies House, and any other legal requirements needed - as directed by the Chief Executive.Events and Fundraising Support
Provide logistical support in the planning, coordination, and execution of various events, including venue coordination, guest management, and on-site assistance. Events to include Research Symposiums, High Net Wealth Dinners, and general fundraising events.Provide ad-hoc support for fundraising activities, including setting up fundraising pages and aiding inquiries related to fundraising efforts where required, supporting fundraising campaigns by assisting the Head of Development where required to support the Foundation's mission.General Office and SupportManage administrative functions, including managing office supplies, IT equipment, and various administrative systems such as post scanning, answering the main office number call, and central email.Oversee the Foundation's relationship with the Royal College of Surgeons on accommodation matters and maintain satisfactory insurance coverage.Act as the Foundation's Health & Safety Officer for bi-yearly forms submission to the RCS.Collaborate with the Chief Executive, Head of Research Funds, Head of Development, and Communications and Projects Manager to provide support for various projects where required.Knowledge and skills
Proven experience in financial management, accounting, and administrative roles. With certifications or qualifications in finance, accounting, or business administration ie, AAT Qualification, part-qualified ACCA or CIMA, or equivalentProven experience in auditing and financial reporting.Familiarity with charity sector accounting practices is an asset.Strong knowledge of accounting standards and regulations.Strong familiarity with financial software (SAGE, Excel) and financial reporting.Experience in managing the operational aspects of an organisation, including risk assessments, GDPR, insurance, etc.Prior experience in a managerial and/or finance role within a charitable or non-profit organisation.Understanding of governance and compliance procedures within the charitable sector.Experience in handling HR-related tasks or familiarity with HR functions.Demonstrated experience in supporting fundraising activities.We practice a diverse and inclusive recruitment process that ensures equal opportunity for all we work with, irrespective of race, sexual orientation, mental or physical disability, age or gender.
