About this client/child: Frankie is 7 years old and lives at home with Mum, Dad, his younger sister and is soon to be a big brother again in the coming weeks! Frankie is a real character; he is an engaging, sociable, happy, and determined chap who strives for his independence. He leads a busy life and has a long list of hobbies and interests. He loves playing games, story times, music, and nursery rhymes, watching the footie with Dad, going for walks…the list goes on, and on! Frankie has epilepsy and quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, which affects his cognitive and physical abilities. He uses Eye Gaze Technology and PECs to support his communication. He is a wheelchair user and receives his fluid, nutrition (blended diet), and medication via a mini-button PEG. He is supported on a 2:1 and 1:1 basis by his dedicated care team, providing around-the-clock support.
Overview of role: Frankie’s Waking Night Carer will complete a handover with his day support workers and then follow the established night routine in place. Every night is different, Frankie can sleep well, only waking once or twice for short periods, or some nights he will be awake for longer periods and require his Waking Night Carer to soothe him back to sleep, this could be a result of his dystonia spasms, a seizure or generally being uncomfortable. There is a sleeping night carer (or parent) on shift to support you if Frankie requires personal care, repositioning etc. Depending on how the night is for Frankie, you will be by his bedside or monitoring him via a video and audio monitor from the staff room, tending to all his needs including administering his medication several times throughout the night. Nightly logs, paperwork, and generally cleaning and tidy duties / tasks related to Frankie (washing syringes, laundry etc.) to be completed. Excellent training is provided, for Frankie it’s not just about having years of experience – he wants the right personality fit!
Who this job would suit: A compassionate, dedicated, and positive Waking Night Carer with excellent communication skills and previous experience with manual handling is essential. You must have a true passion for supporting young people to reach their full potential, along with the confidence to work in a family home, as part of a team, and having sole charge.
What’s great about this job: Supporting Frankie and having the opportunity to work with him is of course the best part of this role, however, his parents and MDT are extremely supportive and invest in Frankie’s care team to continually upskill and provide excellent training opportunities. An opportunity not to be missed! Apply today to join Team Frankie!
