Hi, up for sale is a 1940 Epiphone Blackstone in very good condition. The guitar features a solid spruce top, laminated maple back and sides with flame on the maple back, ivoroid binding, rosewood fingerboard and replacement bridge, nickel tailpiece, original tortoiseshell pickguard and a set of original tuners. Other than the bridge, the guitar is all original and has no structural issues, no cracks and all of the binding is tight to the body. Cosmetically the guitar has some small marks, a little bit of lacquer checking and the previous owner used very strong adhesive tape to hold in place a floating Zoller pickup, which unfortunately left a few small marks where it was attached. There is a small hole drilled into the top about 1mm in diameter where it appears that a piezo bridge was fitted, although this is covered by the bridge. The guitar also has an end pin jack so it could have a pickup installed again.

The sound is what you get from a good Epiphone archtop, mid-range focused, slightly nasal sounding, but with a particularly good bass response for a 16 3/8 inch body archtop. It’s very loud even with low action and plays fantastically well and the original frets have plenty of life in them.

The guitar also comes with a non-original case, a replacement pickguard and the Zoller pickup a previous owner installed.
