Uppingham School seeks to appoint a first-rate teacher of English to join our team as Second in Department, from September 2024.
This opportunity would suit an experienced teacher seeking to broaden their skills and take on a leadership role in a large and successful department.
Teaching in the English Department is delivered by an experienced team of eight colleagues with wide ranging literary enthusiasms and skills in a number of different fields. The dedicated English building is well resourced with a specialist library, a laptop suite and interactive whiteboards and throughout the year a number of different activities contribute to the enrichment of the pupils’ experience, with writers’ workshops, visits by poets, academics and professional theatre companies, in addition to external visits to Stratford, Leicester and London.
About you
The person appointed will be a strong, dynamic character with excellent subject knowledge, a strong degree, good classroom management skills, a track record of excellent teaching and building an appropriate rapport with pupils. The ideal candidate will uphold high personal and professional standards, and well-developed pastoral instincts.
