About the role
We're looking for 2 Employment Advisors to join our Trade Union in the South West of England team. These roles are home-based, permanent roles for 40 hours per week.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing employee relations advice and support to our members, including face to face representation when required.
If you have previous and demonstrable experience gained in a Trade Union or equivalent expertise gained within an advisory, employee relations, and/ or employment law role and would like the opportunity to support our members then we’d love to hear from you.
To be successful as an Employment Adviser you'll have:
A commitment to the Trade Union movement
Good knowledge and understanding of employment law in an employee relations setting. A sound knowledge of HR practises. NHS experience would be an advantage.
Good working knowledge and understanding of the NHS structure and major NHS issues, together with an understanding of the role and function of the BMA.
The ability to apply initiative and analytical skills to problem-solving and exercise judgement, using influencing and negotiating skills to secure good outcomes.
Sensitivity and skills in facilitation to enable members to find their own solutions to workplace issues with your guidance.
An ability to deal with members problems sensitively and difficult situations both tactfully and confidentially.
Proven experience of case management and providing advice to employees
Experience of recruiting new members to an organisation or a willingness to do so.
The ability to manage a high volume of complex cases and workload effectively.
Strong relationship building skills and a commitment to supporting your wider Team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, confident presentation skills
Excellent IT skills (Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Outlook)
Graduate or equivalent level of education. May hold a CIPD or legal qualification
Previous experience and knowledge of working (paid or elected) within a democratic membership organisation/trade union would be an advantage.
As the role is covering the South West of England as part of a team, it is a requirement for the successful applicant to be based in or near the South West in order to attend meetings when required. A full UK drivers license and access to a car is required. All our Employment Advisers are home-based and all IT equipment will be provided.
We anticipate that interviews will be held on 29th/30th January virtually via MS teams.
