This is an ideal role for an educator who wants to make lasting improvements to the lives of children and animals around the world.
Reporting to the Director of Education at global animal welfare charity, Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS), you will develop education content and resources that protect children from key zoonotic disease while encouraging more people to consider a career working with animals.
One child dies every 10 minutes from rabies. Most victims are under the age of 15. WVS established Mission Rabies in 2013, a campaign aiming to eliminate rabies by 2030. Rabies is 100% fatal, but entirely vaccine preventable. Children just need the right information to protect themselves. We have so far reached 6 million children worldwide, but there are so many more children living in rabies endemic countries worldwide. We need your help to develop engaging and fun content for children and teachers that will help us spread these life-saving messages to a wider geographic area. You will be working to support education leads in India, Malawi, Thailand, Cambodia and Ecuador – with an ambition to grow across Sub-Saharan Africa, South East Asia, and Latin America in the next 5 years.
Parallel to this, demand for vets is outstripping supply in our project areas by a factor of 2:1. This is not only bad for animals, but a massive concern for global public health. We have two programmes, Young Vets Club and the International Schools Initiative, which aim to encouraging children to pick a career championing animals. These programmes also focus on primary age children. We are looking for a trained teacher with a passion for producing educational resources about animal welfare/ public health to research and develop resources. We want someone who is excited about new technologies, digital access and their ability to transform education in the countries we’re working in. You’ll join a passionate team with a supportive, creative culture and ambitious growth plans.
This is a new role and offers a great opportunity for the right candidate. As an organisation we are embracing hybrid working, and homeworking/remote working within the UK could be considered for this role.
Applicants should be aware that there is an expectation that employees will attend our Dorset offices and travel as needed for this role. For this role, there may be an average of about 1 - 2 meetings per month that require travel – either to our offices or to other locations within the UK.
