Being the Education and Life Skills Officer
As a Education and Life Skills Officer, you will support young people and other designated groups in developing protective factors such as resilience, confidence and communication through the use of carefully designed programmes and initiatives. You will play an integral role in promoting careers within the Fire Service to young people as well as supporting the development and delivery of the Fire Cadet programme.
What you ll do
Support and deliver programmes that assist young people and other designated groups in developing life skills, career aspirations and enhance protective factors such as resilience and confidence. Support the development of resources and materials (both physical and virtual/digital). Review and support the evaluation of programmes ensuring they are effective and meeting the needs of the designated groups. Support the development of training programmes for those facilitating education life skills sessions. Monitor and coordinate both colleagues and volunteers assigned to support and facilitate education and life sessions. Work collaboratively with internal and external partners, as well as stakeholders to organise and coordinate activities that will support young people to gain life skills, knowledge, and experience in a safe and secure environment. Promote standards of behaviour of participants, provide feedback and support where development falls below expectations. Ensure compliance with Health and Safety standards and practices. What you ll bring
Experience of planning, organising, coordinating, and recording education sessions (both face to face and digitally) which meet objectives. The ability to build strong relationships and communicate with a range of audiences to determine requirements and address their needs. Excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal and written. Enthusiasm, self-motivation and be a positive role model for the young people and groups you work with. Sound knowledge of IT systems (e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and data-based systems) and how to record information, analyse and use effectively to inform approach. Experience and the ability to use data and intelligence to inform approach, organisation and planning of engagement during a session. The ability to use your initiative to dynamically solve problems or issues. An awareness of safeguarding processes and be confident in your ability to signpost and seek support for others. The ability to confidently mentor and/or coach individuals or groups to achieve positive outcomes and enhance protective factors. Closing date: Midnight on 9th January 2024
