This is an exciting opportunity to manage and create a finance team that will support the organisation which receives revenue of approximately GBP2m a year. Charitable donations and membership donations help colleagues to support and develop the mission of the church. You will be joining a dynamic senior management team looking to develop the remit of the office to ensure that the mission of the church is reached by many.
Four key purposes of the role:
Lead and direct the financial strategy and management in line with best commercial and voluntary sector practice.Ensure commercial planning, delivery and evaluation in all areas of activity.Shared responsibility with the Secretary General and other Directors for strategic planning and the identification and management of organisational risk.The finance function also provides financial management and administration for two related charities. Key responsibilities include:
Lead on the development and execution of financial strategy, financial planning, budgeting and cost control for the organisation and related charities.Key advisor to the Secretary General, management team and trustees on the overall financial landscape and its on-going performance and position.Manage and continuously improve the efficient running of financial operations including the preparation of management accounts, cash flow forecasts, payroll, tax returns, creditor payments and efficient management of debtors and contributors.Manage and continuously improve financial reporting ensuring accurate, timely and appropriate information for colleagues.Manage budgeting and planning processes, providing all appropriate financial data, and supporting budget-holding staff in all areas.Support funding applications and subsequent donor reporting to grant making bodies with project and programme budgeting.Manage the preparation of statutory accounts and be the main contact with external auditors.Be vigilant to financial and operational risks and to report and mitigate such risks, contributing to formal risk assessment and reporting.Provide or support all company secretarial functions as appropriate.Ensure that financial policies are up-to-date and compliant with legislation, drafting and reviewing policies as necessary, communicating policies to all staff and being accountable for monitoring adherence to financial policies and procedures. Essential criteria for applying:
Fully qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent along with being of graduate calibre.Strong financial systems experience, ideally including SAP Business One, and a high degree of Excel abilities.Expert understanding and knowledge of UK charity finance and good practice gained in a complex environment.Experience in budgeting and cost control, including provision of reports and analysis to an audience with different levels of financial literacy.Capable of balancing a control mindset with pragmatic and realistic risk management.Innovative leader with the character to learn from experience. This role is hybrid with three days in the office and two days from home, excellent benefits include 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays and 3 days off between Christmas and New Year and generous pension contribution.
