The CEO and Trustees of U-Maths are seeking to appoint a Director of Education to facilitate the excellence of university maths schools and provide national leadership for our outreach work.

University maths schools are 16-19 state schools that immerse students in the challenge, creativity and life-changing opportunities of maths and maths-related subjects. Founded by and closely linked to leading universities, these schools offer a specialist STEM curriculum of exceptional quality and a vibrant community for budding mathematicians. They are engines of social mobility, working with students from under-represented groups to widen participation in high-quality STEM degrees and careers.

The University Maths Schools Network, or U-Maths, has been created by the schools and their universities with a mission to facilitate the schools’ continuing success, and enable their constructive collaboration.

The Director of Education will provide inspiring and purposeful leadership, working closely with the CEO and with Trustees to define, articulate and implement U-Maths’ vision and strategy. They will be accountable for the Promoting Excellence and Outreach programmes of work, will lead on U-Maths’ strategy for data collation and evaluation, and will have responsibility for all network-wide events.

U-Maths is formed from a small, focused team who principally work remotely. This role will support flexible working, largely working from home to maximise output and delivery of outcomes across all maths schools and over a wider geographical area. The role is either part-time or full-time, with a minimum level of 0.8FTE. There will be an expectation that the Director of Education would spend around 1 day each week on face-to-face activities, to include: visiting and supporting maths schools directly; coordinating and running professional development, governance, project and outreach events; planning and coordination meetings with other U-Maths colleagues.
