Development Manager
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Location: West London – currently operating an agile working policy with a minimum of two core days (Tuesday and Thursday) in the office
Contract: Permanent
Pattern: Full-time – 37.5 hours per week
Salary: circa. £45,000
About the role:
As Development Manager, you will work collaboratively with the CEO and Head of Strategy and Operations, as well as board members and consultants. You will lead on growing major donor income streams through supporting the development of new and existing relationships. You will be responsible for identifying, researching and cultivating new potential funders, including ongoing stewardship of funders.
Martingale is strongly committed to staff development. This will include support from the Senior Management team and external learning opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
Working with the CEO and HSO to develop a fundraising strategy
Develop Martingale’s stewardship of new and existing funders
To work with our university partners to grow our impact and build further opportunities for growth
To work with the wider Martingale team to research and build strategic partnerships with aligned charities that further support Martingale’s growth
Manage relationships with university partner’s development office, including ensuring they are consulted and pleased with progress, while also delivering on any commitments
Work with the CEO to develop existing relationships with funders and identify new funding opportunities: support to build relationships, report progress, and make proposals
Critically assess ideas and appetite for new initiatives: engage stakeholders and assess end-user demand
Working with key members of the team, you would be responsible for the production of impact reports and case studies

Essential Criteria
Proven track record of securing grants larger than £50k
Right to work in the UK
Experience and skills:
Experience of securing income from individual major gifts, grant writing, and/or corporate sponsorship
Strong initiative and ability to achieve high financial targets
Able to assimilate complex information quickly, identifying the pertinent points and making them accessible for a wider audience
Experience managing multiple projects/workstream and priorities simultaneously, while maintaining attention to detail, prioritising, and meeting deadlines
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences. Experience communicating with university students, staff and academics is desirable
Advanced IT proficiency: Spreadsheet, Word Processing, CRM or Databases, Email, Web based applications

Excellent interpersonal skills: Friendly and personable, able to build rapport and trusting relationships, able to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting
Comfortable working in a rapidly growing and changing organisation with a degree of ambiguity – confident to create processes and ways forwards where they might not yet exist
Creative and innovative – willing to think outside the box to maximise reach
Resourceful, able to act on initiative, hard working, detail orientated, and systematic
About Martingale:
Martingale Postgraduate Foundation (Martingale) exists to fund and support the next generation of STEM leaders. We believe that family income should not be a barrier to the pursuit of excellence, so our programmes focus on supporting students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds.
The Martingale Scholarship in Mathematics launched in September 2022, with 21 Scholars currently on the programme. The foundation now has the ambition to expand across STEM, working with our eight partner universities.
