I am recruiting for a local authority who is looking for someone to be responsible for managing a case load of former tenant accounts. You will need to communicate with former tenants and negotiate repayment plans.You will also be responsible for tracing former tenants, making referrals to an external debt collector, conducting probate checks, making referrals to our legal department and writing reports to request a write off.
Key responsibilities
Managing a caseload of accounts recovering debts from former tenants, TA clients, nonresidential lettings and sundry debt.
Responding to customer enquiries ensuring they are dealt with and responded to speedily and efficiently.
Undertake debt recovery work by monitoring and taking action as required by the service, working in partnership and ensuring relevant referrals to safeguard and support are made.
Provide debt related advice and support directly to council tenants, their families,advocates and other professionals ensuring opportunities to identify vulnerabilities, safeguard residents/staff, understand resident needs and build resident resilience are realised.
Assist in the preparation for legal action including the provision of witness statements and preparation of the papers for Legal Team for court action, attachment of earnings, charging orders.
Recommend and prepare write-off reports where appropriate and submit former tenant arrears cases to be written off when the debt is deemed to be irrecoverable in accordance with policy and procedures.
To provide advice to former tenants on benefits to maximise entitlement and refer people to benefit and money advice partners and other support services offered by the council and partners.
