D’Angelico Excel DC (US made) beautiful left-hand semi-acoustic guitar
Here’s a rare opportunity to obtain a left-handed version of this outstanding 335-type semi-acoustic - a truly beautiful instrument and excellent for just about any musical genre from pop to jazz.
USA-made by D’Angelico, New York based makers of top-notch instruments over many decades this example is virtually unmarked and has a stunning flamed maple laminate 16-inch-wide body, comfortable deep double-cutaways and a slim C-shape maple neck profile, offering classic tones and modern versatility and superb playing comfort.
This model was purchased before D’Angelico began fitting Seymour Duncan pickups (it’s about 8 years old), so I have fitted Eternal (made in Chichester, look them up) high-end PAF-a-likes, which sound fantastic and are incredibly versatile, partly thanks to the perfectly behaved two-volume, two-tone controls (ebony knobs!). Vintage-voiced warmth to glassy high-end. Now
What else?…. rosewood fingerboard, Grover Imperial tuners (I’ve replaced the buttons as the Gretsch-style metal ones aren’t to my taste. But I still have them and they will come with the guitar, so you can choose.) I have remade the (plastic) deco-style truss rod cover in aluminium to be slightly smaller and better quality. Plush lined hard case included.
You may notice that I’ve been playing with the (11-gauge) strings right-handed. To accommodate this, the only thing that has been changed is the nut slots (the bridge is exactly as original). You can re-string left-handed and be perfectly fine - or re-fit the nut if you want.
I love this guitar but don’t use it enough any more to justify keeping it. Look on the D’Angelico website and you’ll see that the current version retails at about $2,000. I therefore feel justified in asking around £1,000.
