Key Responsibilities:
Represent clients at hearings and court trials.Present evidence to a judge and/or jury if the case goes to trial.Prepare and draft legal documents.Conduct client meetings, both in person and over the telephone.Successfully manage a full and varied caseload, including preparing matters for trial.Take part in Duty Solicitor Schemes and provide advice/assistance in line with Duty Solicitor arrangements.Prepare thoroughly for all hearings, pleas, or trials.Files to be briefed and billed promptly, where appropriate.Proofs, observations or evidence and witness statements are taken and prepared promptly.Advise on appeals, to obtains Counsel's advice on appeals and lodge appeals.To carry out advocacy in Magistrates Court and the Crown Court.Instruct Agent Solicitors and Counsel to attend the Magistrates Courts.When required, attend, and contribute to firm meetings.Provide advice and assistance at Police Stations, participating to the firm's out of hours rota.Promote the interest and welfare of the firm and clients.Perform following the guidelines and procedures included in the Office and Departmental manuals.
Key Requirements:
You will be a Duty Qualified Criminal Solicitor with at least 1 years PQE, however strong NQ solicitors will also be considered.Police Station Accreditation (not a requirement but advantageous).Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.Can work to deadlines.Must be able to decide and act upon priorities of work, whilst functioning well under pressure.
