Job details

As Climate Emergency Communications and Engagement Officer, you will work for the Suffolk Climate Change, Environment, and Energy Board, the Senior Officer group that oversees the delivery of the Suffolk Climate Emergency Plan (SCEP) on behalf of Suffolk's Public Sector Leaders.

Do you have recent experience in delivering effective communications and engagement campaigns focused on climate change and/or environmental action?

Would you like to work in an incredibly varied, challenging, and rewarding role utilising your knowledge of effective behaviour change approaches?

Are you passionate about supporting our aspiration to work towards a net zero county by 2030?

Your role and responsibilities

Liaise with teams from across Suffolk's public sector to devise, commission, deliver, and evaluate the impact of a range of high-profile communication and engagement campaigns to support the delivery of the SCEP. The SCEP is the public sector leaders' response to the declaration of a Climate Emergency and accompanying aspiration to work toward a net zero county by 2030.

Effective support for the SCEP, aspiration of a net zero county by 2030, championing behaviour change, and leading on communication, engagement, and event organisation. You will raise the profile of the SCEP and its associated co-benefits, engaging Suffolk society in its delivery.

Work on the development and distribution of content to support the communication of SCEP activities, including to both internal and external audiences.

Engage and maintain a strong network of stakeholders and local media to support the dissemination of communications materials.

Work in an exciting role in a passionate team, focusing on the behaviour change aspects of climate change and wider environmental action, with particular emphasis on effective communication and engagement with local media, events, and across online platforms.

You will be supported by a network of specialists from across Suffolk's public sector, highly committed to working with businesses and communities across the county to address the climate emergency.

You will need

A passion to achieve environmental improvements and collaborate with others to deliver on challenging targets.

An ability to creatively and continually seek to find new ways to influence people through communications activities and campaigns

To be comfortable to work autonomously, planning and managing your workload in the context of strategic objectives.

You can view a full list of requirements in the Job and Person Profile (docx). If you think you have what it takes to be successful in this role, even if you don't meet all the requirements, please apply. We would appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.

We want to represent the diverse communities we serve, so we welcome applications from everyone, particularly those from minority ethnic and minority sexual orientation groups because they are under-represented in this Directorate.

Travel and workplace requirements

We positively encourage the use of technology to communicate, but in this role you will need to travel to locations away from your contractual base, so you must either hold a full and current driving licence and have access to personal transport or meet the mobility requirements of the role through other reasonable and suitable means.

Hybrid - This role supports hybrid working, a broadly even balance between working from home and working from an office base. Please speak with the contact detailed if you wish to discuss how that might impact your working arrangements. #LI-Hybrid
