I am selling a really special item here, that would make a very lovely present for someone special!
This is an exquisite little thimble, was made by the celebrated Birmingham company of 'Charles Iles and Gomms'. Charles Iles founded his company in Birmingham in 1840, and made thimbles there throughout the 19th Century. Iles Company thimbles were sold worldwide. Then, around 1925, they bought up the electro-plating specialists, Gomms, and produced an extended range of silver and plated thimbles. They finally ceased thimble production in May 1990, after 150 years. This thimble is one of a run of production of various types of their thimble lines, designed to celebrate this heritage.
The thimble is silver plated ~ there is no hallmark ~ dimpled all over, except for a band above the rolled base. Above the base is a smooth turquoise-blue enamelled band with '1840 Charles Iles 1990' in silver, and below that a narrow band of engine turned lines. On the centre top of the thimble is a small single faceted turquoise crystal. The thimble stands 2 cms tall.
The Thimble was purchased new, and comes with the original Thimble Guild receipt. It is unused, unmarked and in pristine condition - look at my photos. This is such a pretty thing, and an iconic item for anyone interested in thimbles.
I am selling a number of very collectable THIMBLES, of various materials, purchased several years ago from The Thimble Guild.
I CAN POST ANY THIMBLE AT COST. JUST ASK ME.
