We are an organisation with ambitions to make the most of our brand-new state of the art Hospice. To achieve this, we need to continue to grow our income, attract and retain the best people and ensure our services continue to remain relevant and valued.
The Chair is first amongst equals and leads and facilitates our wider Trustee body to act as ambassadors for all aspects of our work, ensuring the Board provides outstanding governance, leadership in developing our strategy and supports the Chief Executive, Giles Tomsett in his duty to run the organisation’s day to day affairs including its role within the East Surrey NHS Place Provider Alliance and its liaison with West Sussex NHS Place.
While trustees have overall responsibility for everything the charity undertakes their trustee and Board role (as volunteers) is to provide governance seeking not to ‘manage’ but to give focus and facilitate looking forward and outward, taking a strategic approach within a leadership culture that is inclusive ensuring the organisation is well managed all levels – including within the Board itself. The Board will therefore champion the principle of assurance – that while it is accountable for the organisation, its role is not an executive one. The Board through delegation ensures a balanced assurance framework providing informed insight as to the organisation’s business and affairs. To thrive we need a Chair to provide inclusive leadership that supports the charity to grow our income, attract and retain the best people and ensure our services continue to remain relevant and valued while working closely with the local NHS and social care.
We welcome applicants with Board and/or senior executive officer level experience from any sector. We believe our trustees, employees and volunteers should represent the community we work in and as such we welcome applications from people from diverse backgrounds, including disabled candidates, people from ethnic minority backgrounds, LGBTQ+ as well as non-binary candidates and those who have experienced mental health problems
