A handsome 19th Century 8 day longcase clock by C. Skelton of Malton
I believe it to be a mahogany case and it is in good unrestored condition and has retained its original finish.
It has an attractive painted dial with a nicely painted scene to the arch depicting a castle by a river with boats. The dial has painted fruit around the edges with gold detailing. There is one word which has partly worn away, but I believe it to have said Malton. Eye catching brass finial of a flying bird and detailing in brass at the top. (Please see all photos).
It has retained all its original matching hands. The clock is not currently in working order but all the components are there.
The maximum dimensions are:
Width of base approx. 18.5 inches / 47 cms
Width of face approx. 20 inches / 51 cms
Height minus finial approx. 82 inches / 208 cms
Height incl. finial approx. 91 inches / 231 cms
Depth approx. 9 inches / 23 cms
Please note: There is a dark mark on the bottom side edge which is either an early heat mark or age of somesort.
