This role is for a fixed term of 12 months with the potential to extend, subject to funding.
Summary of Role:
The Cyfarthfa Foundation is a charity established to realise a bold and ambitious 20-year vision for transforming Cyfarthfa Castle and Park at Merthyr Tydfil. We are looking for a highly experienced communications professional to lead on strategic planning and management of all external-facing activity of the Foundation.
Working within a small but ambitious project team you will take a senior role, driving forward our engagement strategy and delivery, bringing staff and board members with you in the next stage of our development. Rolling out a newly developed brand, you will build our visibility and reputation both locally and nationally.

The Role
We are looking for a senior team member to lead on strategic planning and management of all external-facing activity undertaken by the Foundation. This will range from understanding local interest groups to providing briefings for national politicians.
This role supports a key aim over the next 12 months of building our visibility, networks and reputation to assist fundraising. You will line manage our Community Development Manager and, and support with the strategic planning of engagement activity, harnessing their deep knowledge of the community. Activities will include, but not be limited to, communications, events, public engagement initiatives, education projects and fundraising.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience of leading communications for major projects and/or charitable organisations and will be equally comfortable developing strategy and diving into the detail of delivery. There is scope to recruit a Marketing Officer on a part time basis, but the team remains small. You'll be a dynamic and committed team player, and a confident and diplomatic communicator with strong political instincts.
You will be comfortable juggling your own workload and managing team members while maintaining rigorous oversight of project priorities. With your experience you will be comfortable playing a senior leadership role.
Main responsibilities
General:
Develop engagement and communications strategy, particularly supporting the work of the Community Development Manager and upcoming plans to celebrate Cyfarthfa's bicentenary in 2025. Be the brand guardian of the Foundation, developing brand assets and ensuring consistency across all communications. Develop the Foundation's social media presence. Lead on CRM system use. Lead on the creation of the Annual Report. Lead on website update Grow national and international visitors to the website, following website update. Identify and lead on press and publicity opportunities to reach and engage audiences, particularly prospective funders, in an impactful way. Have an understanding of the broader cultural landscape, through networking, events, research. Support fundraising with relationship building and communications. Line manage and develop staff. Provide Board briefings and updates. Attend events, working groups, committees as necessary, including those taking place outside of normal working hours. Skills and Experience:

Track record of working at a senior level across a range of communications services, managing a high level of service Significant experience of developing and successfully working to strategic priorities and operational needs The credibility and influence to act as an ambassador for the Cyfarthfa Foundation, with the ability to operate and communicate effectively at all levels Ability to provide clear direction and decision making, managing complex situations where there is no precedent Desirable:
