A unique opportunity for the ultimate book collector, art collector, activist, philanthropist and/or gambler.
These two books have, and can change more lives, and both the books and that buzz could be yours for a fee or free.
ROCKET BOYS
Yes books change lives and none more than the copy of ‘Rocket Boys’ that a grandad found in an Oxfam bookshop in Shropshire.
It tells the inspiring story of Homer Hickam who didn’t wnat to follwo his dad into the coal mine and how he aimed high and ended up working for NASA.
It inspired our story and is why we make and fire rockets, to inspire kids to aim higher than high, powered by their creativity.
We've shared this story with thousands of children and hundreds of schools across the UK.
But another book, found in an Oxfam bookshop could change even more lives.
1984
Made from pulped copies of Orwell’s seminal 1984, this copy is a work of art - conceptual art by artist David Shrigley where the idea is bigger than the execution - and sold out when put on sale in the Oxfam bookshop in Swansea, South Wales, generating sales of £125k.
Which is exactly half of what we need to roll out the first three of our PopUp Creativity Day Trucks.
STEAM Co.
STEAM Co. is a UK government registered non-profit community enterprise no. 10376457 and has only come this far thanks to donations and hard to find sponsorship as well as a few grants when we can get them.
Our children, our communities and our country have never needed creativity more.
We fear a creativity crisis and need to scale quickly to reach more schools, so we need your support with this iniative, launched on Global #GivinigTuesday
The #OurMillion23 appeal aims to raise a million quids to inspire a million kids by getting up to 23 of our Pop-Up Creativity Day Art Trucks on the road with a STEAMSter, fully funded for a year to run sessions for free in schools and communities, at fetes and festivals.
To prove it can scale we want to get the first three in:
Shropshire and the West Midlands - birthplace of the industrial revolution
Cornwall and the South West - where the stream engine was invented
Yorkshire and the North East - coal country, and art is the coal of this revolution
We’ll also kick off the #RocketKidsClub that Homer Hickam has generously offered to be the Patron of and start live streaming a weekly #RocketKidsShow on our YouTube channel with special guests, creative activities and updates to keep kids inspired after we’ve visited them.
If it does work we’ll then go out and rasie the other £750k to get up to 23 more Art Trucks and STEAMsters on the road.
By World Creativity Day on 21st April 2024.
We have an audacious paln for a bold match funder.
IN BETTING MOOD?
So we’re looking for someone who will make us a bet.
Someone who will pledge £125k for both books.
If we DON’T raise the £125k, our match funder can keep the books and their money (less eBay fees if you buy it here). We’ll keep what we’ve raised and do what we can with it
If we DO raise it then we’ll have the £250k we need to get our first three Trucks on the road in Shropshire, Cornwall and Yorkshire running a year of free creativity days in schools and communities, at fetes and festivals to prove our creative community engagement model can work.
