This is an exciting opportunity to join the Specialised Microbiology and Laboratories Directorate at the Colindale site. You will be working within the Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infections (AMRHAI) Reference Unit, which is responsible for providing reference services to the nation. As an Assistant Healthcare Scientist, you will have the opportunity to work across all sections of the AMRHAI unit, contributing to the provision of reference services. You will be required to participate in the provision of a national reference service that meets agreed quality standards for determination of antimicrobial susceptibility testing and detection of resistance mechanisms. This role will be based at our UKHSA Colindale site (61 Colindale Avenue, London, NW9 5EQ).
Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas. Relocation expenses are not available.

The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:
To undertake basic microbiology and molecular laboratory duties under supervision guided by standard operating procedures, protocols or systems of work based on training provided, and taking into account the operational requirements of the laboratory.To undertake and assist in cross unit wide Maldi-TOF rota for the identification of a range of bacterial pathogens for AMRHAITo undertake and assist in cross departmental DNA extraction rota in preparation for whole genome sequencing of a range of bacterial pathogens for national Reference Service provisionAssist in providing an efficient, effective and timely reference and surveillance functionsTo be able to use the LIMS and perform general laboratory duties and to complement other members of the team.
