Assistant Director City Sustainability
Advert closing date is 7 January 2024.
As part of the City Futures leadership team, you'll bring your expertise and passion to lead two well established teams for climate change and sustainability, plus flood and water management. You will also oversee a new infrastructure delivery function for the city, to include energy and digital planning, along with leading on our ecology and nature recovery responses.
It is an exciting time to join the council, with the chance to help build and deliver new service areas and grow existing ones. You will be instrumental in the design and delivery of strategy in partnership with other public sector organisations and the private sector.
This challenge calls for a leader and specialist in climate change, who can inspire, engage, and influence the Council and our partners to take the right steps to achieving net zero ambitions for the City. You will not only have sound knowledge and passion across these subject areas, but pragmatism, political nous and an eye for the art of the possible. As resources are vital to effecting change, the ability to apply for and attract funding from all sources will be key.
Crucially, you can also develop integrated ways of working, secure value for money and connect quickly with people. You listen to what others think and build solutions accordingly. With your grip of strategic, tactical, and emotional intelligence, you'll be the kind of collaborative and encouraging leader who embodies our 'One Council' approach.
We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also a Disability Confident employer and support staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.
Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
This is a politically restricted post.
