You have been lied to. Matthew 24 does not say we cannot know the date and the hour of Christ's return. It says, that the day and hour of the destruction of Heaven and Earth by the Father is not knowable.
We find this happening in Revelation Chapter 20:11. This is what Matthew 24 is talking about, not Christ's return date being unknowable.
