A Jaguar-badged family SUV seemed sacrilegious when the firm first announced it - leave the off-roaders to Land Rover, critics said, and concentrate on your saloons and sports cars. Years on, and the F-Pace has been a success and a money-spinner for the brand, and one of its most popular models. Mechanically its very similar to the likes of the Range Rover Velar as well as the XF saloon, sharing their engines and aluminium framework. The F-Pace was conceived along similar lines to the Alfa Romeo Stelvio - to bring a brand known for its commitment to dynamics into the SUV age with a crossover that puts driving pleasure above everything else. Of course, to many people a great driving experience matters less than practicality, equipment or finance packages, and so the F-Pace has competition from all kinds of premium SUVs - from the Mercedes GLC, BMW X3 and Audi Q5 to the home-grown Range Rover Velar. The F-Pace range is extensive, with Jaguar offering three petrol engines, two diesels and a plug-in hybrid across a range of trim levels. At the top of the range sits the Jaguar F-Pace SVR - a hot version powered by a ballistic 5.0-litre V8 engine, rivalling cars such as the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 and the Porsche Macan GTS. Relatively recently updated to keep its interior looking fresh next to its rivals, the F-Pace remains strong competition if sometimes overlooked in favour of the German brands. But should you buy one? Read our review to find out.The Jaguar F-Pace has been built with practicality in mind, and it shows. It has a huge 650-litre boot accessed via a standard powered tailgate and rear seats that fold almost (but not quite) flat in a 40:20:40 split, which means youre able to load longer items of up to 1.8 metres into the car. A pair of skis shouldnt be an issue, for example. Its loadspace expands to a total of 1,740 litres with the rear seats folded, while the boot floor is reversible and rubberised on one side for easy cleaning after loading sports equipment or pets. Otherwise its a nice, deep load bay thats bigger than youll find in the BMW X3 and Audi Q5 rivals, which is great if youre carrying anything chunky. The only niggles wed have are that the powered tailgate can be slow (if youre impatient) and the loading lip is comparatively high when lined up next to its rivals. Bear this in mind if youre regularly carrying heavy items and you need to heave them in..12V power point front, 12V power point in luggage area, 2nd row air vents, 3 rear headrests, 3x3 point rear seatbelts, 40:20:40 split folding rear bench seat, ABS, All terrain progress control, Anti-whiplash front headrests, Approach Illumination, Auto dimming rear view mirror, Auto speed limiter, Automatic headlights, Autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with forward facing camera, Bluetooth connectivity including audio streaming, Body coloured bumpers, Body coloured door mirrors, Brake pad warning light, Bright metal foot pedals, Centre armrest console, DAB Digital radio, Driver/Front Passenger airbags, DSC - Dynamic Stability Control, Dynamic volume control, Electric front/rear windows with one touch/auto up/down, Electronic parking brake, Emergency brake assist, Fold flat front seats, Front and rear curtain airbags, Front and rear seatbelt reminder, Front centre armrest with storage compartment, Front fog lights, Front parking aid, Front passenger seat occupancy sensor, Front side airbags, Green tinted heat insulating glass, Headlight washers, Heated rear window with timer, Hill start assist, Illuminated glovebox, Illuminated luggage compartment, Immobiliser, InControl app, InControl protect, ISOFIX on outer rear seats, Jaguar sense, JaguarDrive selector, Keyless Start, Lane departure warning system, Leather multi function steering wheel, LED tail lights, Luxtec door trim, Luxtec wrapped instrument panel, Outside temperature gauge, Perforated grained leather upholstery with contrast stitching, Perimeter alarm, Power child locks, Push button starter, R-sport body kit, Rain sensor windscreen wipers, Rear armrest with 2 cupholders, Rear parking aid, Rear wiper, Remote central locking, Service interval indicator, Shopping hook in boot, Steering wheel gearshift paddles, Sunvisors with illuminated vanity mirrors, Tie down hooks in luggage area, Torque vectoring brake, Traction control, Traffic sign recognition, Trailer stability assist, Trip computer, Twin front covered cupholders, Tyre pressure monitoring system, Valet mode, Variable front intermittent wipers, Variable PAS
