Huge amounts of storage with ability to carry long loads such as bikes or surfboards alongside the sofa
The innovative sofa bed was computer designed and CNC cut from a mixture of 18mm birch ply, 15mm lightweight furniture ply and solid oak. It's robust, easy to use and looks great. See video for how it transforms into a bed.
One great feature of this van is its storage and load carrying capability. The storage areas under the bed are vast. You can easily slide items in or out, particularly when standing at the sliding door or alternatively the cushions lift up, with a spring mechanism easing operation and preventing slamming when closing.
The height of the under bed storage allows for a plastic storage tub to be slid in. I have found this to be a great set up for weekend camping; load up the box in your kitchen at home, slide it in for the weekend and when you return, reverse the process removing unnecessary weight for midweek driving.
Having the full length floor space down the side of the sofa has been invaluable for transporting larger items. I have carried furniture, tools, surf boards and bikes with ease.
Another big positive for this layout is the full sized bed. Many rock’n’roll beds are only 110cm wide, which is uncomfortable for two people. In contrast, this bed is 130cm wide, almost the same width as a standard double bed. It’s also slightly longer than usual benefiting taller people. The extension mechanism uses 2 pairs of heavy duty drawer slides, each of which are rated at 250kg carrying capacity. The bed is rock solid when deployed and its cantilever design allows bags, surfboards etc to remain on the floor as it is pulled out.
There is a storage box at the rear of the van attached to the bed. This is designed to fit the Dometic CDF 26 top loading portable fridge. Combine this with a camping stove and a jerry can for water storage and you have everything you need for a comfortable trip away. The fridge is not included in this sale but could be available at additional cost subject to negotiation.
The cushions are 10cm thick, consisting of a firm foam and memory foam sandwich. This combination is the best configuration for both sleeping and sitting. The cushion covers were professionally upholstered and are machine washable.
The van is comprehensibly insulated with a mixture of self adhesive foil faced foam sheet and recycled plastic fibre. I have some photos of this process should you wish to see them. It is also sound deadened with SilentCoat.
The 110aH AGM leisure battery is charged via the vehicle alternator and a 100w solar panel bonded to the roof. This system provides ample power to run the fridge, lights and charge phones, even when parked up for a few days. There is also a mains hook up which powers a pair of mains sockets and the mains battery charger. All the electrical parts are from premium brands - Victron and CTEK.
There is a professionally fitted MV Airo2 diesel heater that pumps out ample heat when the vehicle is parked, allowing for comfortable winter camping.
Whilst I’ve owned the van I have had the EGR valve and gear box professionally replaced. Both of these components are prone to failure on the T6 and cost over £1500.
As evidenced above, I have been proactive about fixing things before they cause major problems. The vehicle has been well driven and carefully maintained, getting through MOTs without issue.
The paintwork is in good condition with a few age related marks.
I am selling this van due to getting a new vehicle through work.
Viewing possible in Bristol or Cranleigh, Surrey.
