From the moment of its launch, the Rover 75 caught the public's imagination. Here, at last, was a car that felt like traditional Rovers and had been designed in Britain.
The Rover 75 entered production in 1999 and was originally intended as a replacement for the Rover 600. When BMW took over the Rover Group they scrapped the design platform of the Rover 600 and wanted this new car built on a totally new platform. Fortunately the Rover team were allowed to design this car without too much interference from BMW, keeping with traditional Rover design philosophy as much as possible. The design of this car had mixed reviews but became rather successful with the general public, with its slick 'retro' design. The Tourer was introduced as the estate version in 2001 and had a lot of room in the rear. In 2004 the Rover 75 changed the look of the car to a more standard European look, which again received mixed reactions, sometimes you just can't win when comes to critics! This car ceased production in 2005 when MG Rover went into administration.
Please don't compare this old girl to a modern car. She's 20 years old, and there may be imperfections, blemishes & age related wear & tear in there somewhere, even if not apparent on first viewing. It is inevitable that some degree of tinkering may be required even to a car in this condition.
