We are excited to offer this seldom seen Lancia Flavia Zagato that has had just one family owner from factory. The vendor's father purchased this car in 1965 form the Lancia dealer in Wassenaar, Holland. It was used as a daily driver initially, before sympathetic restoration many decades later in the UK. Since its restoration in 2013, the vendor has continued to enjoy the car on high days and holidays and the car has a wonderful well cared for and adored but well enjoyed feel to it throughout.
The most outrageous yet least acknowledged Lancia Zagato was the 1.8 litre Flavia. Designed by Zagato's main man of the era - Ercole Spada, it possessed some earlier Zagato styling cues, such as the windows into the roofline, which echoed the Panoramic Fiats of the early fifties. Streamlining was key with Zagato working primarily in aluminium. The quest for saving weight carried over into the interior and with the paint, applied sparingly, in two or three very thin coats. The interiors were also thin, particularly the vinyl, dashboards were hammered out of slim aluminium. 670 Lancia Flavia Zagatos were made and 537 1.8L models. Hailing a maximum top speed of 117mph, a curb weight of 1020kgs with naturally-aspirated Boxer 4 Cylinder Engine. Producing a maximum power of 101bhp at 5200rpm and a maximum torque of 102lb.
This aluminium bodied Flavia Zagato held some corrosion between the steel chassis and the aluminium body work. In 2013 this was completely repaired during restoration. The engine was rebuilt alongside a renewal of pistons, liners and clutch. A full body respray was carried out in the original silver tone. The interior is largely original and in fabulous condition.
From factory, the Flavia has disc Brakes all round and a four speed gearbox. Confidently, it has always run hot around town with addition of electric fan at the front of radiator; engaged by a knob at the lower side of the gear lever. The car has a fuel tank capacity of 48 litres. The leather steering wheel isn't original, replaced by a sportier counterpart back in '65 when smaller wheels were all the rage. The indicators are intermittent and the fuel gauge and rear window motor haven't worked for some time. Mileage sits at 101,000km.
These Flavia Zagatos rarely come to market, let alone with such provenance and in such a useable and cared for state. We are confident this car will make a great addition to any Lancia and/or Zagato enthusiast's collection.
As with all of our vehicles, we have a digital folder available on request containing more images, walk-around videos, pictures of the underside and scans of the service history. The car can be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
