A fantastic opportunity to acquire a right-hand drive, UK-supplied 6.9 in original black with black velour and just 83k miles from new.
One of the most iconic Mercedes factory hot rods, replacing the 300SEL 6.3, the new W116 received an even larger M100 engine, stretched to 6.9-litres and squeezed into the S-Class with dry sump lubrication. Instead of the 6.3’s air suspension, the 6.9 used full hydropneumatic suspension, similar to a Citroen. The car was a favourite of F1 drivers of the day as it was one of the fastest, and most expensive, saloons available.
First registered new on the first of August 1981. It was acquired by its last owner in May 1984, who kept it 39 years.
Finished in its original colour of 040 Black with matching black velour interior: a rare and desirable colour combination. Period Rial 16in alloy wheels.
MoT records show the car was last tested in 2006, but we understand from the last owner that the car has been largely unused, stored in a garage for over 20 years. HPI clear.
Thanks to being dry stored, the body is in very solid condition and does not appear to have ever been welded. We have inspected it underneath and there is very little in the way of significant corrosion.
The engine runs and sounds healthy, the suspension rises, and it goes drives for loading purposes. Obviously this is not road legal and will need to be transported away.
Requires restoration, but with low miles, low owners, factory black and rare right-hand drive, it would be hard to find a better candidate.
