This 1979 MGB Convertible was inherited by the seller in 2008 from
his deceased father, who he says was the British roadster's second
owner. As seen in the provided photos, the car was "backdated" with
the earlier, pre-1974 chrome bumpers to replace big black plastic
bumpers used on the later cars to meet U.S. light impact
regulations. This car retains the higher stance that MG used to
meet U.S. lighting regulations. The seller reports that the car was
repainted in 2004, so perhaps that is when the bumper surgery was
performed. The bumper replacement would have removed about 200
pounds, always a good thing in a sports car. The seller also
reports a new interior in 2008 (seats and carpets) and an undated
engine rebuild about 17,000 miles ago, at which time the odometer
was reset. The seller says, "My dad owned and restored many British
vehicles (MGB, MGC, MGA, Austin-Healey, etc.). I'm selling because
I don't drive it enough."
