1973 Buick Riviera GS * Only 3,933 Produced!Only 3, Riviera
GS models were produced in the last year of the Boattail. Even
fewer with the factory sunroof via American Sunroof Company and
center console like this all-original survivor. Owned by me since
2014, preceded by my dad who had it since the early '80s and sold
it to me when he retired and couldn't afford to keep her, since I
had made him promise to give me first right of refusal if he ever
decided to sell. I have very little documentation from before I
took ownership. Odo reads 38,177, but the odo wasn't working when I
bought it from him reading 28,931 so I don't know actual mileage.
He only drove it on sunny days attested to by its lack of rust
other than minor pitting in the taillight trim (none in the huge,
perfect bumper!) and the rally wheels.I immediately had to fix both
the non-functional the odo and the gas gauge just to know when I'd
run out of gas (and once fixed I was excited to see it has a little
red grain-of-wheat bulb that illuminates for low fuel
condition--how modern for '73)!Dad had the half-vinyl roof removed
and repainted the entire car a similar white to the original color,
but he couldn't remember exactly what year. It shines brightly with
a good hand-wax; surprising in a paint job from back when clear
coat was not yet a thing. Dash is excellent; seats good to
great.I've done small maintenance and break-fixes to keep her
roadworthy and have receipts. Only non-std parts are Pertronix
ignition (hides in the distributor maintaining stock look), yellow
Accel plug wires (because they look neat) and Flowmaster Delta 50
mufflers on stainless dual exhaust. I couldn't allocate enough
funds while helping the kids through college and I'm not mechanical
enough to fix the 2 significant, (but parts exist!) inoperative
systems: the sunroof that was off the chain (motor still works with
dash switch) and the non-working ac (all of it still there, though,
and the heat and controls do work), but those never bothered me!
Since I never was out in rain, and with the power windows down and
sunroof slid back by hand, I could hear the clean executive power
of the 455 through the dual Flowmasters, and it was great every
time.Only parting with her because all discretionary income is now
going into a motorhome for us to visit the kids now scattered
across the contiguous states!
