A very smart example of a rare and attractive car, one of a very small number built to the James Young B100 design, with clean lines & tastefully restrained styling. In fact, our information suggests that it is one of just five built! Beautifully finished in vibrant deep metallic blue, with excellent chrome plating, very dark blue leather interior (which can look black in some light conditions), lovely veneers, fresh carpets (including in the boot), etc, and truly gorgeous! Very clean throughout, inside, outside & underneath, as well as being suitably free from structural issues. Mechanically very good as well, and driving particularly nicely. Included with the car is a history file, which confirms entire ownership from new, including a long-term owner from 1968 to 2011. This is confirmed by a considerable amount of service history, and various other documentation from the 1960s onwards, amongst which is the car's original guarantee certificate. The car is fitted with radial ply tyres which suit it well, and is offered, prepared, serviced and newly MoT tested. An excellent long-distance cruiser, eating up the miles with ease, and ideal for Continental tours, as its name suggests!

Rex Makin (1925/2017) was the son of Joseph Agulnek & May Makin both of Russian/Polish descent who had settled in Liverpool. In 1928 his mother insisted that Joe changed his surname to her maiden-name by deed-poll as she did not want to be known as Mrs Uglyneck! Joe Makin was involved in the manufacturing of leather trunks for seamen & his wife May was a dress-maker. It is thought the BC46XE may have been Rex's 40th birthday treat to himself as by now he was a well-established lawyer whose clients included a variety of people from Harold Winstanley a (trainee footman accused of murder at Knowsley Hall with a Schmeisser MP40), to Brian Epstein (Beatles), Ken Dodd & Carla Lane - it is claimed, that Rex was the first person to use the word Beatlemania in a Court of Law. Within a few years BC46XE was with Robin Oliver Way of Wimbledon whose business interests in the Wimbledon area included William Way Ltd (Builders Merchants), Way Carriers Ltd (transport), Wayfairer Hotel and whose home address was Wasp Well in Redhill. Robin Way kept BC46XE for almost 43 years until it was sold via RM Auctions to Alan Carrington a well known dealer.

About Us:
The Real Car Company was established in 1987 by Ray Arnold & Ian Johnstone. It was a hobby that 'Got out of hand'. Our interest in cars of the type that we now sell goes back to our childhoods, and ownership back to the 1970's. Gradually more cars started passing through our hands, and by 1986 we had decided to make a full time occupation of buying and selling the cars that we love.
We started with a single car (all we could afford) which we sold quickly, and before we knew it we had 4 or 5 on our hands! This was alongside another business that we were involved in at the time. In the Spring of 1988 we gave up the other business, (exhaust systems), rented part of the premises that we still operate from now, and went full time.
We had a good start in the boom years of the late eighties, which set us up well enough for us to ride the storm of recession in the years that followed. As the years went on the number of cars going through our hands increased gradually, we built up a workforce, and we now carry a stock of around 40 to 50 vehicles and there are nine of us here. In 1999 we were awarded 'International Classic Car Dealer of the Year' by Classic Cars Magazine. The market for 'our' kind of cars is nicely stable, generally prices are creeping upwards all the time, and we feel that investing in a car - or cars - of the type that we sell is generally a great place to put your money. Don't do it just for investment, but you can get a great deal of pleasure from these vehicles, prices are - in our opinion - unlikely to drop, and you can't drive a share certificate! Some prices in the last three or four years have moved up considerably, and these cases have shown a tremendous return on investment.
Over the last fifteen years or so we have brought home several hundred cars from the USA, and we are always looking for more. If you know of a Rolls-Royce or Bentley anywhere in the world, in absolutely any condition, please let us know. Distance no object, commissions happily paid. We always particularly enjoy the 'barn finds'.
