Description

Picture the definitive, classic British sportscar and the chances are it'll look something like the Austin Healy 3000. Still one of the greatest British-built sportscars ever made, we're thrilled to offer this delightfully dainty early Mk1 model at Duke of London.

Built as post-war Britain was getting back on its feet, the 3000 was far more than a fine-looking sportscar, it symbolised a change in society, progress and home-grown engineering prowess.

Equipped with a plucky 2.9-litre C-series engine, the little low-slung sportscar could reach a top speed of over 100mph and could cover off the 0-60mph dash in 11-seconds. The pride of the British Motor Corporation's (BMC) sporting range, the 3000 held that place for just short of a decade before production ended in 1968.

This particular model, a BT7 (2+2), has been cherished since it was first delivered to Kennings, Redhill, Surrey in March 1960. Still wearing the same Colorado Red paintwork and Fawn leather interior with red piping, as it was initially specced with, the Healy has been treated to the five-speed transmission upgrade.

Complete with a comprehensive service history dating back to the mid-1970s, the car was extensively restored between 1975 and 1977. During this time, the car was treated to new front wings, front and rear bumpers, new in and outer sills, a new windscreen and new lights on the outside, as well as a full respray in its original colour. This service history helps us to also substantiate the mileage of the car, currently 28,000 miles. Based on all of the paperwork we have for the car, this is believed to be the cars genuine, original mileage.

Under the body work, it had new pistons, valve springs, inlet valves and timing chains, as well as a new clutch, water pump and camshaft. In line with the restoration, the shocks were replaced as was the exhaust system, brakes, hoses and electrics. On the inside, new seats, carpets and dash were fitted.

The car was sold in 1987, still with its original sales and registration documents, before more work was carried out in the late 1980s and early 90s. The car was sold again in 2004, where it was treated to a full respray in its original colour.

Today, this Healey 3000 is a shining example of a 1960s automotive icon, complete with a comprehensive history.

As with all of our vehicles, we have a digital folder available on request containing more images, walkaround videos, pictures of the underside and scans of the service history.

The car can be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
