An amazing and rare collector car with the J2 Rocket option (Tri
Power). This elegant and timeless classic dominates the road with
unprecedented styling and power. I think this is one of the
best-looking cars of the 50s, it's rolling art. Owned over 10 years
by the owner of Abernathy Restorations.
EXTERIOR: The body lines are simply striking and speak for
themselves. The 1957 was an all new look with rakish lower
roofline, low cut doors give it a custom look and a unique 3 piece
rear window. This one has a very clean body that is straight, and
the panels line up flush and square. I remember the first time I
saw this car, the all white really impressed me. It has a smooth
glossy finish too. The abundance of chrome trim is impressive and
in very nice condition. To make it even more stunning it is rolling
on a set of chrome wire wheels wrapped in radial wide whitewalls.
Absolutely stunning overall.
INTERIOR: The matching white upholstery was hand stitched. The
seats and side panels were all handmade. It has a sharp looking
dash area full of chrome, the gauge cluster is a work of art in
itself. It has optional padded dash; passenger corner is pulled up.
We did pull the gauges and sent the speedometer and fuel gauge out
to be restored.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: It's really special under the hood. This one
has the J2 performance engine. It's a 371 with 3 two barrel carbs
on top making 300 hp and 414 lbs of torque! That's impressive for
1957. It also features power steering. The engine compartment was
taken apart, restored and detailed. The manifolds were ceramic
coated, carbs were restored, valve covers were rechromed. All the
components look proper. Everything is painted very neatly. Upgraded
with modern electric wipers. Looking in this engine compartment
makes me very happy.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: This big trunk is lined in carpet. It is
complete with a jack and spare. It has an optional trunk light
too.
UNDERSIDE: The underside presents very nicely overall. It looks
like it has original rock solid floors and inner rockers.
Maintained as needed, we did extensive work on the power brake
system. New custom dual exhaust with welded joints and Hushpower
mufflers. Looking up at the motor and trans it is clean. Oldsmobile
called their 4-speed automatic the Jetaway. The trans has been
serviced. It's been cleaned and freshened up with some black
paint.
SERVICE: We inspected the car and spent $3,714 on service. We
rebuilt the rear wheel cylinders, some hard lines were replaced,
the master cylinder and power booster were rebuilt then the system
was bled. The gauge cluster was pulled: speedometer and fuel gauge
were sent out for restoration. The fuel sending unit, alternator
and turn signal switch were replaced. It has a fresh oil change.
This beauty is ready to cruise.
The overall styling and visual appeal of this impressive classic is
unmatched. The NASCAR grand national championship was one in a J2
57 Olds in 1957!
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for
virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant
amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my
professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to
assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are
answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video
that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are
displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car, make an
appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment
there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car,
your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year
membership.
