This 1956 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is a "Lowlight" example that was
said to have been imported from the U.S.to Canada in 1988. The car
was fitted with a replacement 1967 chassis and a 1,835cc flat-4
engine paired with a 4-speed manual transaxle. Subsequent work
consisted of repainting the body in metallic blue, retrimming the
interior in red vinyl upholstery and overhauling the braking
system. Additional equipment includes a roof rack, an adjustable
front beam and rear spring plates, 15-inch steel wheels, whitewall
tires, chrome-finished bumpers, front disc brakes, dual exhaust
outlets and a Phillips radio. An Ivory-color steering wheel wears
an aftermarket center cap and frames replacement VDO
instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer
and a fuel-level gauge. The cabin features seats reupholstered in
red vinyl and color-coordinated door panels sourced from West Coast
Classic Interiors. Contrasting beige square-weave carpets are
fitted, and additional equipment includes a roller-style
accelerator pedal, a glove compartment, front lap belts and door
pockets. This car rides on Coker Classic whitewall tires. A front
sway bar is also installed. The chrome has been replated and the
seals, door glass and quarter-windows have been replaced. **
