The “Celebration” is the latest addition the 10mfan catalog, among hard rubber mouthpiece. As the name suggests, it has been designed to celebrate the hystorical Otto Link mouthpieces of the past
It’s categorized as the second darkest of the mouthpiece available, with (as usual) a new and different design.
Compared to “The Classic” (which in some way recalls more the “nasal singing quality of the Otto Link from 60’s, maybe late 50’s, Slant Signature), the “Celebration” features a larger chamber, a higher but shorter baffle with a deep floor slope, toward the chamber. An unusual design which provides some of the buzz of the Otto Link from the 70’s (Early Babbitt) with a kind of hollowness which is typical on Otto Link from the 40’s and 50’s (Reso Chamber and Early Babbitt).
The result in terms of sound is quite suggestive or evocative (maybe emblematic?) because is a depper “Otto Link style” sound, compared to what we use to listen in the records.
Although the references are pretty clear, this mouthpiece is not a clone of any Otto Link. We all know that Mark (10mfan) is great in finding the way to provide something which sounds like (…) but with a different physical design of the chamber and outside,
The advantage is the mouthpiece can still sound “loud” and easy, providing a flexibility in terms of sound and use, way too hard to achieve with the “original thing”
This mouthpiece is made by Brian Powell e Erik Greiffenhagen, the Mouthpiece Guys, so facing and tip rails are way more traditional compared to the the 10mfan mouthpieces Generation I.
This “Celebration” is a special edition, made in red marble hard rubber (+$100), which is a softer material supposed to provide even more ease and a “resonance”. Many other manufactures use/used this kind of material for special mouthpieces. (Freddie Gregory, Navarro, Ted Klum… Vandoren).
The mouthpiece is in like new conditions.
