Hello and happy new year! ????♀️
Are you finding it difficult to communicate in English? Do you need support with work or your studies? Would you like a new and fun challenge in 2024? Whatever your age, level or needs, you've come to the right place because my aim is to share my passion for English with you. ????
My name is Carla and I am a university-educated English teacher and trainer from London, who loves helping people learn this *quirky language. I have a clear, standard British accent, which my students tell me is easy to understand.
I hold a Delta diploma, which is the highest qualification for English language teaching, and have more than fifteen years of experience working with adults and children of all different ages and nationalities at some of the world's top schools and universities, including UCL and International House.
I speak Italian and French and can understand some Spanish, Arabic and Greek too, so I know how challenging (and fun!) it can be to learn a new language.
My lessons are designed to help you improve your general, academic or business English. I also support younger learners with their schoolwork, helping prepare them for the English component of exams such as the 11-Plus and GCSEs. I am professional, patient and supportive, and will adapt my lessons to suit your needs. I can assist you with:
★ SPEAKING (conversational / professional / giving presentations)
★ LISTENING (understanding formal & informal English / different speeds and accents)
★ WRITING (formal and informal / essays / creative / work correspondence)
★ READING (improving speed and comprehension & understanding the meaning of new words)
★ GRAMMAR (range of structures and functions)
★ VOCABULARY (phrasal verbs / collocation / idioms / formal & informal language)
★ PRONUNCIATION (speaking more clearly and naturally)
With my help you will become a more confident user of English.
I offer a free 20-30 minute initial assessment to discuss your needs and level. My fees start from £35/hour and vary depending on the type of English taught, the length and location, and whether they are one-to-one or in a small group. You may find others charging lower fees, but my prices reflect my extensive experience, qualifications and skills, as well as the amount of preparation I put in to each lesson with my student.
My lessons are always tailor-made for the individual - I will not just give you lots of generic grammar gap fills to work on, as these are boring and not particularly useful. With me you can be sure that I will be focusing on YOUR particular needs.
I also offer online lessons via Skype - all you need is a good internet connection and a webcam. You can study from anywhere in the world! ????
I am DBS-checked and am happy to provide references on request.
If you need help editing your Word documents, I also provide a proofreading service.

Here are some testimonials from a few of my students:
'English has never been my strongest point and I struggled a lot when I first started to work in London around 2 years ago. During that time I couldn't call someone alone without help, and what is worse is that I didn't understand much during the company meetings. It really slowed me down from doing my work and furthermore my promotion was affected. But that was before I met Carla.
She diagnosed and analysed the key weaknesses in my English skills, and improved my speaking and listening, which allowed me to communicate with others effortlessly and further, do my job properly. Beyond the lessons, she also encouraged me to use English during my daily social circumstances and provided informative tips to maximise the learning outcomes. After just a few months of lessons, I managed to talk in front of more than 100 people in a conference and I finally got the promotion I longed for.
Carla is not only a great teacher, but also a friend with a heart-warming character. She made my Wednesday morning the best morning of the week. Beware, her passion for English is contagious. Even after I achieved my target of English proficiency at work, she also got me interested in writing short stories as a hobby and currently I'm still working on my pronunciation to reach excellence.
Carla taught me more than English, she made me discover the beautiful world of languages and grow my confidence and willingness to learn new ones. That's a skill I have now for life.
Don't hesitate, go for Carla.'

'Carla is a competent and qualified English teacher. Every lesson with her was tremendously helpful and inspiring, and I would strongly recommend her to anyone who wants to improve their English!
I wanted to work on both academic and general English, and Carla guided me through this journey very effectively. At the beginning of every lesson, I asked various questions that I had piled up during the week. Although some of these questions were tricky to answer or even made no sense, she was always willing to help me and answered every question in clarity. As a PhD researcher, I often brought pieces of my writing or presentation materials to Carla, and she was very helpful in making sure that they are flawless and clear in terms of grammar, expression and fluency. I am sure she could help you with every aspect of English - writing, speaking, listening and reading - regardless of your command of English.
Above all, she is a very passionate and enthusiastic person. She is a good listener and always willing to accommodate a student's learning needs. You will also find that she is knowledgeable about various topics and fields so whatever your interest lies in, you will have an intellectually stimulating conversation with Carla, which is I believe the best way to learn English!'

'Before I started to take lessons with Carla I often felt quite worried about my upcoming exam – the 11-Plus. When I began studying with her, there were five months to go until my first exams and nine months until the later ones. In my first lesson I learnt a lot and I actually mean it! We progressed fast and soon enough I was at the top of my class and I felt my exams went well.
It has been almost a year since I met Carla. She is a jolly person, who understands you and is very interesting. There has never been a time when I didn’t want to have a lesson with Carla. After the first few lessons she will establish perfectly what you already know and what you need to know, then, as if by magic, she will have taught you that topic thoroughly, then the next, and the next and so on. I think that is one of my favourite things about Carla.'
