Vintage Clown & Dog Valentine?s Day Card (#E4) $20

　　*** Attention collectors of antique paper or Valentine?s Cards, this is a must have! ***

　　This is a rare vintage Valentine?s Day Card made in Germany which was found in an attic of an old farm house in Iroquois County, Illinois. The card dates back to the early 1900?s based on the artwork and honeycomb decoration, not seen these days. It was designed to pop-out and set-up, giving the card a 3-dimensional effect.

　　The signature on the back of the card indicates it was given to Mrs. Shaw from a likely former student, Raymond Morton, for Valentine?s Day and she must have been much admired by her students. In researching the school and card history, it seems that Mrs. Shaw was a teacher in a small one room school house known as Parker School House in Iroquois County, Illinois at the turn of the twentieth century.

　　Details are sketchy, but the Parker School House (District #116) appears on the 1904 plat map of Iroquois County, Illinois. It was noted that the original school house burned down that year and the new faculty which was built lasted for over 37 years. The institute had a number of teachers since its inception in the early 1830?s, but it seems that Mrs. Shaw was the last know teacher as the last reported student enrollment was dated to 1941.

　　The card shows vintage wear but still in fair condition. These normally sell for $30 to $50, but as you can see the price reflects its condition and the card would still make an excellent addition to any vintage Valentine Card collection or a great piece for scrapbooking!
