  My story

ATTENTION: All of our dogs are in private foster homes. We do NOT have a kennel with multiple dogs. If you find a dog you want to meet in person, please go to and complete an application. We will make every attempt to process all applications within 3 business days of receipt. // // Meet Utah! the ultimate example of a perfect dachshund, Utah an 8-year-old 11 lb smooth red neutered male dachshund who is playful and loves to go for long walks. Utah gets along GREAT with other dogs and plays non-stop during daylight hours with one of the other doxies in his foster home. He is warm and cuddly when he is not engaged in playtime and loves to sleep snuggled under blankets. It is a bonus if his humans are also under the blankets with him.. Utah is working on house training - he was in a shelter for months and is still not sure on how to cue the need to go outside. That said, he does go outside both on his own through the dog door and on a leash and does his business within 15-20 minutes of starting his walks. He is in great physical shape as he is walking 3 to 6 miles a day depending on the weather. He is afraid of the dark so when walking early or late, a flashlight is a must. A bigger dog took a chunk out of Utahs right ear before he came to rescue so he is very wary of larger dogs and may also be why he is afraid of going out in the dark. Utah has maturing cataracts in both of his eyes and has limited vision and may eventually lose all vision. He gets around just fine. Utah is an absolute love and his foster family says if they did not already have a full pack they would keep him. Utah is small and has a very long Doxie back so families without stairs (or they can block them off with gates) and children over the age of 12 are preferred. He would make a great companion if you work from home or are retired. He is very alert and does bark at knocking on the door or people passing by the windows. His adoption fee is $250. All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption. Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Fees help Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs, vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. Please go to and complete an application today! All dogs live in private foster homes until they are adopted.
