Sophie's story
Sophie is a tenderhearted and beautiful three-year-old Retriever / Greyhound mix, originally rescued from an overfull shelter in Texas. Sophie is a great medium size at 46 pounds and is fully grown. Sophie is a shy girl still learning to trust people. She may fair best with another canine companion in the home to help with her high-strung hound tendencies, especially when left at home alone or in a crate. Her doggie friends should not be too pushy or jumpy with her, she prefers dogs that let her take her time to warm up to them! Sophie is nervous and a flight risk: we recommend a home without children for her. Sophie was treated for heartworm disease at her last shelter, so we are looking for a "foster-to-adopt" home for Sophie until we can confirm that she is indeed negative for heartworm disease. She will need to be under exercise restriction until at least the last week of January and she will be able to be retested for heartworm in March. She is ready to find a forever home to show her patience and unconditional love as she learns to trust again. Meet Sophie today!
