Scout's story

　　Scout (was Tickles) is approximately a10-12 month old HIGH ENERGY mixed breed, schnauzer due to the whiskers on her muzzle (her mom was a schnauzer mix), maybe some hound or beagle due to her beautiful coat and her voice. She is nervous (you can see it in her separation anxiety) and she can be very barky/agitated at dogs on the other side of the fence or on leashes. Once in the bark park she loves to run and play with no issues we are told.

　　Her foster at EAPL had her settled in (we thought) and she was becoming a wonderful young lady. She was working on her commands, she has a great sit, a good Come, a good down, and a good NO. She WAS cat friendly, she is cat curious, but she accepts the fact that she has to share her home with a cat (this was at her EAPL foster home). She loves children, but in her youthful exuberance, she will knock small children over trying to play (again this was in her EAPL foster home she played with the grandchildren all the time). She accepts other dogs, but she does like to be the dominant female if she can. The big plus is that she is well trained in the art of the potty, she will practically go potty on command. You don't have to spend hours walking her to get her to finish her business, just tell her and it is done! This makes her an easy dog to keep in a smaller space or where you don't have time for long walks before work.

　　So she was adopted out BUT.... Unfortunately, things have gone downhill with her adopter and she is being returned. This is their story; when I take her outside the house is when the challenges begin. "She is wonderful and sweet with me at home, but she lunges and barks at everyone and everything that we see when we go for walks and are outside. I think that unfortunately I may not be the best home for her and she may be happier in a home with lots of land with few other people and kids around. As I live in a subdivision and my yard borders a popular walking trail, I cant provide her with the calm environment that I think she needs."

　　Scout needs a home where you can continue to work with her on her calmness, and not live in a subdivision where her anxiety begins. Do you have a nice large fenced yard a great friend to play with, do you live in the mountains or country where she is not fence stressed with other dogs barking and running and everyone building up anxieties? Are you home where she can feel safe and work on her crate training (or if she is calm with her friend she might not even need to be crated) for the time that you might be gone?
